If you receive a piece of mail that includes a check with some derivative of the phrase "You've Won!", make sure you thoroughly investigate it. Chances are, it's most likely a scam.

NJ.com reports that a Deptford man fell prey to this last month when he received a card in the mail that included a CVS and Publishers Clearing House logo which made it seem valid. Authorities claim that's how the scammers prevail; they use trusted sources to fool you into attempting to cash the checks or access the websites. Once you do that, you're basically turning all of your personal information over to them.

The Freeholder Director warns residents that should you receive either and add or survey in the mail that promises monetary reward, never answer them. Rather, contact the office of Consumer Affairs.
