Mental Health Education Now Mandatory in NJ
New regulations will shortly go into effect regarding mental health education and instruction within New Jersey's public school system.
Governor Murphy recently signed into law new curriculum mandates that make it mandatory for all NJ schools to include lesson plans that instruct and educate children about mental health in school health and P.E. classes.
According to PhillyVoice.com, children will begin to receive this instruction as early as kindergarten and it will continue through senior year of high school. The lesson plans will be catered to the students based on their grade-level, therefore no student will receive instruction that could be deemed inappropriate beyond their years.
It's been expressed that the hope is to encourage a better relationship among all and to shed light on the reality of the daily struggles people face who are battling mental health issues.
The new regulations take full effect not this school year, but next.
