You have probably heard of Feng Shui, but if you are like me, you really don’t know much about it.  It can get quite complex, but you do not need to know everything about it to see the benefits. The Chinese words "Feng" and "Shui" translate to mean “wind” and “water," respectively. This concept is derived from an ancient poem that talks about human life being connected and flowing with the environment around it.

One of the main goals of Feng Shui is to arrange the pieces in living spaces in order to create balance with the natural world. The goal is to harness energy forces and establish harmony between an individual and their environment. It focuses on having dedicated spaces for particular tasks and uncluttered living areas.

Understanding without knowing

Feng Shui is about how you react to your environment on a fundamental level. Let me give you an example. A cluttered room can be distracting and can often make people feel as if things are out of control.  However, an organized room that is tailored for productivity will make it easier to be productive.

In essence, it's about structuring a room with the intent of making it work for you, not the other way around. A big step is making sure things are clean and neat. Then simply to make sure your movement is not impaired and you have plenty of room to move around and feel comfortable.

What to do?

Feng Shui can get very complex and detailed, but here are some of the basics...

Arrange your room for different headspaces. We all have work and relax mode, so dedicate spaces to do these things and do not cross them.

For example, when you have work to do at home,  it usually requires focus and attention. That is something to be done at a desk or table, not a coach or bed that you associate with relaxing.  In essence, if you dedicate spaces to certain tasks all while keeping a good structure to your room you will be in good shape.  There are also basic guidelines for how furniture and items should be situated in relationship to windows and doors.

Here is a checklist of Feng Shui rules for every room in your home to help you create more peace and balance.
