Sad story out of Sea Isle this morning.

The Marine Mammal Stranding Center out of Brigantine shared a photo to their social media of a pregnant spotted dolphin who sadly passed away somehow. It's currently unclear how the team even knew she was pregnant other than the little bump evident on the bottom of the dolphin's tummy, but that's normally a clear-cut sign according to Wild Dolphin Project.

Another sign that a dolphin may be pregnant is stretched spots. On spotted dolphins, when a female is pregnant, her spots tend to stretch just like a woman's skin can produce stretch marks. This story is a sad one considering so many dolphin babies are born in the fall. This would-have-been dolphin mom could have potentially been approaching her due date. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
