79-year-old pedestrian killed on busy road in Washington Twp., NJ
A 79-year-old man was killed along a busy road in Gloucester County Thursday evening.
The Washington Township Police Department says at about 5:15, their officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on the eastbound side of Ganttown Road.
A preliminary investigation found that the driver of a blue Kia Sportage struck a 79-year-old man while he was walking in the eastbound lane.
That pedestrian, who police only identified as a resident of The Clusters development in Turnersville, was later pronounced dead at Jefferson Hospital.
The driver, identified only as a woman from Glendora, remained at the scene and is said to be cooperating with authorities.
Ganttown Road between Egg Harbor and Bells Lake Roads was closed for approximately two hours while officers conducted their investigation.
Efforts to locate witnesses or surveillance footage in the area have been unsuccessful. If you have any information that could help police, you are asked to contact Ofc. Andrew Psillakis at (856) 256-1212.
