Back in 1962 gold legend Sam Snead helped open up the Mays Landing Country Club.

His appearance brought a lot of attention to the club, and from there it blossomed into one of the more popular golf clubs in the area.

That popularity blossomed and grew for the next 20 to 30 years.

Sadly, Mays Landing Country Club eventually closed up business within the last five years or so.

I'm here to tell you the property is about to spring back to life bigger and better than most have expected.

Hold on, because I have the insider scoop!

LaScala Restaurant in Mays Landing Will Be Off the Hook!

Wednesday afternoon, project manager David Jones gave me an insider's tour of the former Mays Landing Country Club.

My immediate reaction: WOW!

Jones saw an article I wrote earlier about LaScala's opening a restaurant on the property, and filled me in on the details.

The property's new owners hoped to take the bar and restaurant, and the pro shop, and open the building back up last year. Once crews started working on the property, they figured out that that proposition wasn't possible.

Basically, instead of a "sprucing up", the building needed a complete overhaul. The building was pretty much completely gutted and redone.

The Project is Moving Fast in Mays Landing

I checked out the progress, and again: WOW!

If you were ever inside the Mays Landing Country Club's building in the past, you will not recognize it today.  A completely different look and feel. They are still a few weeks away from completion, but the new look is staring to come together.

Inside the new LaScala's at Mays XII, you'll find a large room with an oversized beautiful square (or rectangle) bar. There will be some tables surrounding the bar.

Another room will be used for overflow dining. The view to a brand new outside patio, and the golf area is brilliant and beautiful.

While work still needs to be completed, you can tell that the craftsmanship and products are all first-rate.

No offense to the previous owners, but this new venue is going to blow away the former location.

I mentioned the outside patio. It will feature a lot of seating, with an 18-hole out-of-this-world miniature gold course a few steps away.  Beyond that, a high-tech golf driving area, that will be a driving range with hi-tech features that will go beyond anything available at other golf courses.

Outside there will be more features, including Koi fish ponds.

Make no mistake, LaScala's at Mays XII will be a premier dining and entertainment destination all on it's own.

What About the Golf Course?

The golf course is being worked on, and should open in the near future.

Yes, it's being pared down from 18 holes to 12 -- a rather unique concept, that should go well with the dining and entertainment theme.

Townhouses will be built on the rest of the current course, but, again, it's will be much more that "just some house going up." Think a planned community with special walking paths and other amenities.

If you ever thought the newly imagined property would be a step down from it's past life, you are mistaken, This is going to be more, much more.
